I belong to the Porous Carbon Pad (PCP) team in the Processing Department and am responsible for manufacturing parts using NC machining centers.
Porous carbon was developed with the aim of "controlling permeability" by focusing on the permeability of carbon. Taking advantage of its transparency, we produce suction cups and floating conveyance products for gripping and conveying extremely thin workpieces such as semiconductor wafers and glass substrates for liquid crystal displays. It is used by many manufacturers, including semiconductor manufacturing equipment and FPD (flat panel display) manufacturing equipment.

Tanken has its own carbon processing technology
The manufacturing of parts mainly involves the selection of materials, cutting work, program creation using CAD/CAM, and MC processing. The parts handled by the PCP team are mainly high-mix, low-volume production. It takes time and effort to manufacture because it is a single item.
Many companies handle the processing of metal parts. On the other hand, the precision processing of carbon is only possible at Tanken, which has developed the material in-house and has advanced cutting technology. We find it rewarding to support our customers' operations with our advanced technology and time-consuming manufacturing.

Overcoming difficult processes through accumulated experience
Carbon has advantages that metals do not have, but it is also difficult to process. If processing conditions cannot be set appropriately, cracks or chips may occur in the material. When I was first assigned, I had a hard time since I only had the know-how for metal processing. Although I sometimes made defects, through experience I was able to deepen my knowledge of cutting conditions and acquire know-how. Currently, we are always conscious of the customers who use our products, and conduct our business with a ``quality first'' policy.
I want to pass on knowledge and skills from seniors to juniors.
I used to work in a factory that handled metals, but this was my first time working with carbon. Seeing me in trouble, my senior colleague carefully taught me everything from how to proceed with the job to the know-how of carbon processing. It's been about a year since I was assigned, and before I knew it, I had completely settled into the workplace. I would like to listen to everything I can while my seniors are still here, and grow from being in a position of being taught to being in a position of teaching.
All members of the Tatsuno factory are friendly and open-minded. It's a lively workplace with strong teamwork. Regular events include the Tanken Golf Competition (held once a year before the coronavirus pandemic), welcome parties, year-end parties, and other drinking parties to deepen friendships. It's a very comfortable company to work in, with plenty of benefits such as free vacation.

The Tatsuno factory where I work is located in Tatsuno Town, Nagano Prefecture, the center of Japan. It is a comfortable environment with abundant nature and a high rate of sunny skies. It's a little cold in winter (lol)
