Cartridge type mechanical seal
In recent years, the adoption of cartridge-type mechanical seals (hereinafter referred to as "cartridge seals"), which can be easily assembled, has been increasing. Cartridge seals have a structure that integrates all mechanical seal parts (cover, sleeve, sliding material, etc.), and are products that anyone can easily assemble without any skill. The unique feature of our cartridge seals is that by changing only small parts without changing the basic structure, you can select a structure to suit any customer's specifications. This is Tanken's unique design that no other company has.
Through repeated studies and tests, he has perfected the structure and handling of cartridges, and has completely mastered them, earning him the title "Cartridge Master." Let's take a look at the secret story behind its development.

PROJECT MEMBER

Engineering DivisionMK(New graduate joining the company)
The first legend of design After graduating from university, he joined Tanken and was assigned to the engineering department. He was a founding member of this project and is the foremost person to consider the design of cartridge seals that have been passed down to the present day. In this project, he will serve as a design leader by improving the design, considering new features, and providing customer support.

Inheriting a design legend From joining Tanken to the present, he has been involved in the design of mechanical seals. He has been involved in this project since 2004, where he has been involved in improving existing products and developing new models. In 2014, he became the development leader for the CM3 series. In 2023, he made a complete model change from CM1 to CM3 series.

Let's work together to solve problems with one mind
Q1
The most important part of the development was
Please tell me the technique.
Development involved investigating the seeds and needs, performance and cost, and making thorough comparisons with rival products, while also searching for compromises on how versatile the product should be.
We believe that the gradual development of additional options and variations to meet customer requirements is also a factor in the increase in adoption.
Due to the compact design, each part is thin. As for Mechanical Seal, the key point was that we did not run away or give up on the ``fight against distortion'' even in a situation where we could not deny that we lacked strength.
The CM1, which was developed as an improved version of the CM3 series, adopts a modular design that is widely used in the automobile industry, and aims to standardize parts between each product, reducing design and processing costs.
Q2
Was there anything particularly difficult during development?
please tell me.
It became a race against time to figure out how to avoid problems in the early stages of release, and to make continuous improvements to bring the amount of leakage to near zero during development tests. It took two years from development to the long-awaited release.
This is the development of the Quenching seal. We started development based on complaints. Space and cost were issues. I tried various things, but all failed. We believe we have developed a seal that can perform well in tight spaces.
Many years have passed since we started selling the CM1 series, and we have developed the CM3 series. We have designed the connection dimensions to a minimum so that customers who are already using CM1 can replace it with CM3 without any burden.
Q3
Tanken is said to be characterized by cross-departmental development.
What kind of goodness does it have?
One of Tanken's strengths is its speedy response. Rather than taking steps, each department fulfills its role in parallel to achieve the goal in the shortest possible time. I think this will lead to the possibility of such responses.
Tanken is said to be a good family-run company. This is our treasure. From the start-up stage of a project, members selected from all departments gather to form a team. When you're lost, you need a place to turn to, and everyone is sympathetic and will listen to your story. We have an ingrained corporate culture in which we work together as one to solve problems.
Q4
Where does your attitude to take on challenges one after another come from?
Do you think you are born?
I believe this is due to our attitude of sincerely responding to customer concerns and listening to the entire company, including sales, technology, and production. I think it's important to keep trying, rather than saying that you can't do something because you don't have a track record or giving up because you've failed, and that the spirit of ``exploration (tanken) will lead to success'' has been passed down.
When I was young, I sometimes wondered if this challenge would be profitable (lol), but I believe that in the end, I gained the trust and trust of our customers and contributed to an increase in orders.
We believe that our mission is to provide support services for safe continuous operation, which is our company policy, in a format that meets the needs of our customers. We have no choice but to take on challenges in order to continue providing products that satisfy our customers.
As the saying goes, "Failure is the key to success," and I think this is because we have a company culture that encourages people to take the plunge and try things without fear of failure.
Q5
The response from customers is compared to the initial stage of sales.
What about now?
In the 26 years since we started selling our products, I don't think there has been any particular change in the response from our customers, but our products have been adopted in a variety of specifications and devices, and we have built up a track record of numerous deliveries. I believe that the fact that we have made improvements and expanded our lineup in order to respond in detail to our customers' conditions and situations has also led to our reputation for trust and trust.
By offering a diverse lineup to meet customer needs, we have been able to significantly increase unit sales compared to the initial stage of sales. I am very happy and find it rewarding to be able to see something that I have designed take actual form and contribute to the world by delivering it to the world in large numbers.
